Greetings! And happy beginning of the week to you! I was blessed to review my verses last Sunday on the way to worship with my darlin’ oldest teen. That did not happen this week because darlin’ teen was behind the wheel. And my other teen was on the strictest of gag orders in the car, well because, teen one was behind the wheel.
Let’s see how I did:
Isaiah 53:6
All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way, but the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him.

Isn’t that good news? The last part, I mean. “But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him.” Good news yes indeed.
This week as I memorized, I first learned the beginnings of each phrase:
All of us
Each of us
But the LORD
Then I noted similar words in each phrase:
have in the first phrase
has in the second
has in the third
Breaking it up like this helped me to get it right this week! Yeah!
Week 1: Psalm 119:11
Your Word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You.

I have absorbed a lot of Scripture in my years of Bible study, but never really successfully retained any by memorization. A few – like 1 Corinthians 10:13 have stayed with me, but truthfully most of my recal is from the repitition of study rather than the intentional repitition of my mind.
I used to tell people I learn by osmosis. If I show up – then I learn. It is the oddest thing. Not like a photographic memory, but just being present helps me learn and retain more than anything else. I can also remember every vain, insulting and ugly thing that has ever happened, which I prefer to think is a curse. They say an elephant never forgets and I feel that must truly be me. HA!
I’ve also learned writing things down helps me a lot… a lot… a lot.
I memorized Psalm 46 last year – all 11 verses that ends with the familiar “Be still and know that He is God.”
I wanted to pray them over a group of people and thought that memorizing would be so much better than reading it as I prayed. So I sat down late one night and began my memory exercise: Write each verse 3 times then say it 3 times – with the allowance that I can look if I get stuck. So… I write, I speak, and I remember.
The most blessed thing I learned from that experience – besides the fact that I could memorize 11 verses – a whole chapter of the Bible… I smile… cause I never thought I could… – was Selah (to pause and calmly think of that.)
I get real excited about the Word of God (you might have noticed that a time or to) but, I have to say, I rarely paused and calmly contemplated Scripture before I allowed my passion for the Word to devour the subject. Now, I have learned to Selah before I WOW! And I love it.
You however may not love me as I am being quite the Blog Hawg today!

Your memorization is encouraging! I am trying to do this as well, but I am starting out with one verse a week. I hope I can do as well as you.

Sorry I missed your note last week. I’ve not been on my blog much because we’ve been unpacking in our new house. My lofty goal was all of Psalm 1, which is six verses, which is a lot in one week for me…at least to memorize and keep forever and not just a day or two. I only got three verses memorized though.
