So Much More than a Sunday God

A Beautiful Life· A Word· Heritage Fellowship· Holidays· Outside My Comfort Zone· Reflections· There is Poetry Inside of Me· Weekly Word Devotionals

27 Nov

Sunday while sitting in church, relishing the presence of God that was so tangibly there, I couldn’t help but think of situations and encounters that were coming up this week and how much I needed God.  The sermon was about hungering and thirsting for God. I was already taking HIM into my week.  Into the Monday through Saturday of my week.

For me, it is so easy to be a good Christian on Sunday, but the reality of my Monday, or Tuesday, may bring out another side of me.  I was thinking of a situation on Tuesday of this week when I heard these words come to my mind, so I got out a pen and wrote on the back of my sermon notes and then on the back of the ushers and greeters schedule and then on the back of a Christmas party invitation.  When you are a writer and you forget your notebook, you write on whatever you can find.  And so I submit to you, the poetry that came to me while sitting at church this last Sunday.

You are here today
But I need YOU to be
My Tuesday God

YOUR presence is here today
In every way
But I need YOU to be
My Tuesday God

What good if I can’t take YOU from this place
And help me in relationships, face to face
Be my Monday God

At home, with peace may my feet be shod
Be my Tuesday God
Full of grace
Taken from YOUR holy place

Be my Wednesday God
In where I go
And the love I show

Be my Thursday God
When I grow weary and weak
Let me hear YOUR Holy Spirit speak

Be my Friday God
That I may say my work is through
And finish well all that I am to do

Be my Saturday God
A day with no bounds
Yet stayed in the tower of YOUR surrounds

Be my everyday God.

What good if I don’t take YOU from this place?
What if I don’t apply what I know to what I do?
What if a Sunday God is all you are to me?
What if I walk out of this place and forget:
Your face
Your mercy
Your grace
What if I turn to self and sin
And let the enemy win?

YOUR presence is my greatest need.
YOUR presence is my greatest need.
YOUR presence is my greatest need.
I plead

Sink deep into my every pore
Allow me to dive into YOUR holy stores

Capture my thoughts and mind
To sin, let me be blind

Pour out your mercy and grace
That every single day I seek YOUR face

YOUR presence is my greatest need.
I plead

I need an every day God
I need an every day God

Help me see my greatest need
I plead

Be my every day God

To hear the melodies of heaven
Twenty-four seven

Caught up in the everyday reality of heaven
Twenty-four seven

Amen and amen.

And a Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
