I remember it being very quiet when I arrived at the Beijing Capital International Airport. I went through fingerprinting with the help of a kind Chinese woman I’d met on the plane and was waiting in a a very long customs line when my tired, but excited eyes, took a first look up at the airport in China. I did not expect the visual treat my eyes soaked in. The daylight was streaming in through triangular windows, and there seemed to be miles of never-ending white strips, along with natural wood tones in diamond patterns that made the layered patterns on this beautiful ceiling. The lighting was designed by UK lighting architects Speirs and Major Associates. It was an amazing sight, truly amazing.
What a lovely welcome to China.
Look up, my friends.
There is such beauty all around us.
