There is so much going on in the news lately, and much that concerns me individually, and for our family and friends, our community, our nation, and our world. So much that was normal to me, to us, just weeks ago, has changed.
I remember back in the days of my first real job after college, a co-worker shared some wisdom with me while explaining office procedures in my corporate job when he said:
“One thing is for certain, things will change,”
That was thirty-one years ago, and I’ve found it to be true over the years in all sorts of situations:
“One thing is for certain, things will change,”
And it can truly be said of late that things have changed. As we navigate our new normals, I find that as much as I want to stay informed, I also need to not get stuck in only dwelling on the news and focus my mind and thoughts on what is, the best as I can express it, is listed in Philippians 4:8:
“In conclusion, my friends, fill your minds with those things that are good and that deserve praise: things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and honorable.” Good News Translation
So amidst change, I am so thankful for The One who does not change. God was the same when I started working in the insurance industry thirty one years ago, and He is still in control with the recent changes I, and we, have experienced.
God does not change.
God remains the same.
So, in this constantly changing world, I’m going to do my best to live out Philippians 4:8 and fill my mind with things that are good and deserve praise. I have decided to go on a treasure hunt for the “true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and honorable,” and I am finding it every where I look. I am finding what I look for right here at home, even with the Safer-At-Home initiatives in full swing. Yes, we live in a world where things are changing.
This last week, in our yard, I found beauty along the fence line and penned a short poem as I dwelt on the lovely daffodils:
To behold it and think, It is all mine –
To enjoy, and
To appreciate,
Don’t be late.
So much beauty awaits.
Are we awake,
Are we aware
Of the beauty that is there?
I want to be.
I want to see.
So much He has given me.
Oh the thrill, and frills,
Of the daffodils.
I’d love to hear if you have found anything that is “…true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and honorable” this last week. If you have, please share it with me.
And have a wonder filled weekend.
