I just want to give a shout out to all the people out there that are bringing encouragement and positivity to everyone! Wow, I have heard some amazing stories of people doing kind and generous acts for others. I’ve read the Twitter story of a woman helping a frightened elderly couple get groceries, our local restaurants are donating meals to healthcare workers, my friend Joslyn is making masks for residents at a nursing home, and Ashley has signed up to do errands for those who are at risk!
I am convinced there are “true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and honorable” things going on all around us, even at such a time as this. These stories I’ve recently heard are the kind of news I want to focus my attention and thoughts toward. So, I am continuing to treasure hunt for beauty and I am finding it everywhere I look. I was so tempted to share more beautiful blooms with you all this week – because there are some in bloom right now that are amazing; but, I’ve experienced beauty and kindness in other ways and I want to share those.
Going to the mailbox has become a big event during the Safer-at-home orders, because it is about the only place I go every day! Most days, what is in the box just gets brought in for The Salesman; but, there were a couple brightly colored envelopes that stood out to me because they had our names handwritten on them. There were no computer generated labels or bulk mail stamps to be found on these personal cards received from friends. And, there were such sweet notes written inside! “Social Lora” (the way I’m referring to the pre-safer-at-home me) has really missed visiting with my friends and was just so tickled to get this happy mail – I felt like a child on a birthday opening these cards.
There is just something so sentimental about holding a card in your hands, especially at this time when we are at a distance from others hands.
The visual then of having these cards on my desk this week reminded me that my friends are thinking of me and love me. In our electronic world, and especially during our physical distancing, I really appreciate the time and effort and energy my friends have taken to share love with me from a distance. Having these cards reminds me of them and the blessing that their friendship is to me. Although I may not be able to sew masks, or do errands for those who are at risk, I have been inspired to take the time to send cards this next week to others. Aren’t good deeds like that? They inspire us to do good deeds, too! Thank you friends for inspiring me.
How about you? What have you found, or experienced, that is beautiful, or has brought encouragement to you this week? I would so love to hear about the things that have encouraged your heart this week!
And have a wonderful weekend.
