A week ago today, the last fledgling flew away from the little finch nest on the wreath on our back door. What joy this nest brought me! The LORD truly brought beauty right to my back door. It has been so much fun to watch this second nest and the six eggs that hatched and filled the little nest to overflowing.
This is the second nest on the back porch this season! Remember the first nest and the four little eggs and the fun that I had keeping track of every day of CornTeen with the activity of the nest? Once those first eggs hatched, I don’t know their end; but one by one, they were gone from the nest long before they could have flown. But then, this sweet little finch nest showed up on the wreath with six eggs!
Back when we listed our home for sale when we lived out in the country, the first contract we had on our home fell through and I was so disappointed. But the second contract that was offered was so much better than the first one! I feel this same way about the birds nests that have been here at the house during this season. The first nest appeared on the topiary tree right outside the door and I was thrilled when four eggs appeared; but, it did not end like I’d hoped or imagined; but, the LORD brought another bird family with more eggs and I got to enjoy the complete cycle with them. And I got to even watch from inside the house through the sheers sometimes as the parents fed the babies! He is so good!
From the building of the nest to the laying of the speckled eggs…
To the fledglings very fuzzy first days and how they seemed very aware that I was taking their pictures…
To the amazing marvel of seeing the progressive growth of the brood up close…
To just enjoying how cute they were all flocked together…
To the days when we would open and close the door so carefully because they were spilling over from the tiny nest…
To the moment when The Salesman and I walked out the door for an appointment, and at 3:50 pm and while watching the birds precariously perched on the nest as he locked the door, the first one flew over our heads and out into the sunshine!
Oh, the Lord indeed is good.
Look up! There is beauty all around us!
