We did a fun thing this last week – we went to Colorado – and I’ve been about to bust to share; but, The Salesman asked me not to post about being gone while we were gone. It didn’t matter to him that I’d asked a former police officer to stay at the house while we were gone…he didn’t want me posting that we were gone. He asks so very little…so now that we are home, I say – we went to Colorado!!!
Oh, it was fun, and funny, from the get-go, you know, two people who are married can be very different in what they like to do… We have been married almost 32 years and one of us (me) enjoys travel and the other one (The Salesman) does not like to travel. So, when the opportunity to go presented itself, I booked the trip quickly. The Salesman ended up giving me three printed pages of information about Colorado, and a full handwritten, college-lined page of sights to see. I took his detailed list based on his love of history and reading about cowboys and compared it to my list which included botanical gardens and art and made a list of what we’d do together! His hotel choices were so Frasier Crane. It just makes me laugh because the last time Victoria Leigh went to New York with us and we had a family meeting to plan where we’d stay, The Salesman selected a room that would make anyone who never planned to leave their room happy, Victoria Leigh liked an airbnb that had a rooftop garden, and then there was me: hey, we are just going to be sleeping there and we want to see everything we possibly could! My family knows that when we go on a trip I usually plan to see as many activities in a day as the day is long; but, this trip we took at a much slower pace.
Today I am going to share just a bit of the beauty we encountered in Colorado. You will have to let me know if you want to see the full slideshow.
We rented a car and slowly drove through the switchbacks in the mountains as serious bike riders pedaled passed us as we stopped often to take pictures and just enjoy the beauty all around us. The Rockies are spectacular.
God is so creative.
The Salesman has read so much history that he could be a tour guide and entertained me with all sorts of facts. There were times when I felt like I was in history class; but, he was an enthusiastic tour guide. We both enjoy architecture and had a long list of historic homes and landmarks that we wanted to see.
The architecture at the hundred year old Union Station was stunning.
We spent time leisurely walking around a couple downtown areas, looking up and finding such beauty all around us.
We strolled outside and enjoyed Denver’s most historic block, Larimer Square.
There were so many quiet and beautiful nooks.
We saw some art along the way even though I did not plan a museum visit.
The Salesman wanted to read every historical placard we came upon and I would find lowers or architecture to pass the time while he read. Colorado did not disappoint.
We were able to see almost every historic place we had planned to visit.
It was fun treasure hunting for beauty in Denver.
The scenery beyond the structures was beautiful.
Our hotel was breathtakingly beautiful. It was one of the first atrium-style hotels to ever be built.
The original stained glass and these two pieces of framed art were my favorites from our tour of Molly Brown’s home. Know that I have at least a hundred pictures I could share from her home…
I may have several pictures of this basilica, too…
From the grand and glorious to the simple and elegant, it was a wonderful time away from routines.
In looking up, I saw light, hope, and beauty.
Cowboy’s Day Off, which is the title of this statue The Salesman found of interest, is what I’m titling this trip in my journal.
Happy holiday weekend, friends!
