It was a normal Tuesday afternoon, The Salesman was at his desk and I was back in the Jesus Room at mine. I heard the doorbell ring; but was concentrating on my current project and was surprised when he came back carrying a beautiful vintage Red Friends stoneware bowl filled with squash and zucchini soup and handed it to me and said, “This is for you and this bag of cornbread crumbs is to garnish the top.” He went on to say a friend had just dropped them by and that she had said it was for me. And he went back to work. I however, marveled at the Lord’s goodness to me through a friend and I cried a few tears because I was so touched by this act of kindness. It wasn’t random to me. It was so personal and perfectly timed.
Some meals may nourish our stomachs while others also nourish our soul.
It takes a special friend to do both. I know I say it all the time, and you probably are saying, “We know what you are going to say, Lora!”
I have the best friends ever.
One time this same friend knew I was looking for little white pumpkins to use as decor on the dining room table and delivered a beautiful ribbon-tied bag of them to my back door along with a sweet card. My friends spur me on to love and good deeds.
In honor of good friends, and this friend that just blessed me, let’s do something good and kind for a friend today! Let’s not give because it is a holiday or a special day; but, because it is Wednesday. Let’s do something that will make them marvel as they hold the gift and peel back the wrap to see the goodness of a good GOD in the gift.
Today is a gift. Friends are gifts. Giving to others is a blessed gift.
What if what we gave encourages a weary soul?
What if
We gave a gift?
What if?
What if we peel back the wrap and behold the glory and goodness of a good GOD in our friends.
Oh, let the giving begin.
GOD has a storehouse that knows no end.
Oh, let us be generous friends.
Amen.
