As I was walking early morning this week, the sunrise in our front yard seemed to gloriously burst through between the high Abelia hedge and the low canopy of evergreen trees and shine in rays and rings, on the path I was walking. In reflecting on the beauty of the sunlight streaming down on me and remembering this day, I wrote a prayer poem asking the LORD to shed His light on all of us today:
Lord, when we look up and see the void and desolate places
And remember our heroes and brave ones faces,
Would You please shine down on us in all Your glory
As we pause and reflect 9/11’s tragic story?
‘Twas a day seemingly devoid of light
When so much evil came as a thief in the night.
Shine Your rays of goodness and light
On us as a country, and our people, unite.
May we band together in Your Holy Son,
Today Lord, as we remember, and yet, feel undone.
We honor the victims, and we pray,
And ask You LORD, to redeem this day.
Come in Your fullness and shine down on all our empty places
Lift our spirits, and shine fully on our upturned faces.
We look LORD, to You,
Come and do what You only can do.
In honor and remembrance and trust
And desiring peace, and all that is right and just
We will not forget.
We look to You.
Oh Son-shine, Your radiant rays
Please brighten, and lighten, our hearts today.
Son-light of heaven break through all our dark places
And shine upon our hearts and upward turned, and tear-stained faces
Please dawn upon our land,
And graciously scatter and expand
Light, and rays of Hope, in, and among, and through, our land.
Amen.
