Fall is my favorite time of year! I enjoy:
Cooler weather
Leaves changing colors
Turtlenecks – All fall clothing, really
Pumpkins, squash, and gourds
My parents birthdays
Thanksgiving holiday meant a family gathering time in my growing up years
A fire in the fireplace
Well, that spontaneous list came together in a snap! One of the *things* my mama would make during this wonderful season was an Apple Crisp and she’d serve it up warm to us as my brother and I would spin in those yellow leather swivel chairs around our kitchen table. I have so many good memories of my mama and our growing up years. Since we are eating healthier, I thought I would make a Trim Healthy Mama version of my mama’s apple crisp, so I did:
Mama’s Apple Crisp
Place in greased (with coconut oil) 8″ square pan…
- 4 cups sliced, pared, cored baking apples
Blend until crumbly; then spread over apples…
- 1/4 cup Gentle Sweet (click here to order)
- 1 cup Old Fashioned Oats
- 3/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 Tbsp, soft butter
Bake until apples are tender and topping is golden brown. Serve warm with cream or a whipped topping.
Temperature: 375 degrees
Time: Bake 30 to 35 minutes
Amount: 6-8 servings
Try it Mamas! You will like it! You may remember my post Trim Healthy Mama Apple Crumble Recipe & Review linked here. And you may want to try that recipe as well. And in case you just want a recipe the way my mama made it, here is the section of her original recipe before I made my THM version:
Blend until crumbly; then spread over apples…
2/3 to 3/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
1/2 cup sifted flour
1/2 cup rolled oats
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/3 soft butter
And mama would serve it will vanilla ice cream, oh yes, she would. I served our healthy version warm with a dollop of a cream topping. Yum. I also served this to friends and asked them to write their reviews on a anonymous card:
So Yummy!

Do you put the topping in the blender? Your directions say blend but your picture has the oats whole. Thanks for the help!

Meredith, that is a great question! I just blend with my fingers and then take it by the *fingerfuls* and crumble it over the top of the apples.
