Looking up, and for, The Light

For the Love of Lamp Lights

8 Oct

Lamp light

I find it all so beautiful.

I named my blog By The Lamp Light umpteen years ago when I started corralling my words in one fixed place verses little scraps of paper that I’d be impressed to scratch out in the wee morning hours and were constantly overflowing my nightstand drawer.

The Light of the world leads us in dark times.

As a community of faith, and country founded on faith, we have experienced some dark times and I find myself waiting for, calling on, and seeking Light, now more than ever.

The Light of the One True Lamp remains.

From the time I was a child and dressed in the color-blocked dresses stitched by my Aunt Mary and sang “This Little Light of Mine” to my current years of wearing a dress over pants and singing with hands raised high, “Light of the World You came down into darkness opened my eyes that I might see,” I was at first drawn, and then connected to, The One True Light.

I turned Him on and off over the years.

Sad; but true.

He never, oh never, turned on me.

In the business of this life, in what seems to me a time of increasing darkness, I can’t help but describe *things* that are occurring in our days and times like The Creator did:

“Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep,”

Genesis 1:2

But what Hope comes after that in the same verse:

“…and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.”

I like to believe that same Spirit is hovering over our waters… Even the waters where ships are at a standstill.

Oh yes, I believe.

The same God who spoke in the next verse:

“And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.”

Genesis 1:3-4

I long for Him to shine His light on everything that is wrong and make it right.

I long for Him to eliminate night.

Every form, or “formless and empty” *thing* –

Make it right.

This I know for certain, we need The Light.

When I look to the right or the left, it’s as if this current of darkness is as thick as Tennessee morning fog; but my eyes, and my heart, and my spirit, continue to look up.

I use to always encourage my readers to

“Look up”

Yesterday, I took the time to look up, to see the beauty of lamp lights that remind me to look up to The Lamp Light.

The beauty of our Lord

Is all around

Though the news of this world

Continues to astound

So much seems shrouded in dark

Protect us Lord in the safety of Your ark

I know You hover over these ships

Not one thing to You is missed or slipped

I’m just going to speak like You

Your words eternal, faith full and true

“Let there be light”

Separate all the discord and division and hate

Lord, on Your light, we wait.

It’s more than ships that are stuck

It’s attitudes, freedoms, beliefs all mired in muck

Lord, for me, and for our country, and world, we long for You to come separate

And though we grow tired in the wait,

Guaranteed, You won’t be late.
