The Little Miss had 15 minutes to visit and I welcomed her sunshiney self in to a kitchen brimming with Sunday evening meal prep for the week.
There wasn’t a spare space on any surface: I had a salad prep station, fruits and vegetables in stainless colanders and on paper towels drying, the sink laden with dishes, the Dutch oven simmering with squash soup, veggies roasting in the counter top oven, the juicer was assembled and I realized the jars and lids hadn’t been unloaded from the dishwasher…
And she sweetly asked if she could help…
Suddenly I was back some twenty plus years to our youngest always curious when I was working in the kitchen- the *things* that run through my mind as I move the blender from the mountain rising in the sink basin and make sure the water is not too hot and squeeze luscious lemon foaming soap onto tiny dimpled hands.
Oh the joys of children and childhood memories.
Her chatter filled the only void place in my happy kitchen – the atmosphere – as she lined up the jars and then turned the lids over to dry.
We talked about kitchen shears and how vegetables can make soup look like cheese and new opportunities at church and then the Salesman brought his empty soup bowl back in and he called her the Swiss Miss which started a whole new conversation.
She was on her second bowl of soup when her mama messaged.
She filled her hands with berries and left my heart full as her bare feet pattered on.
Fifteen minutes goes by so quickly.
This is the salad I was prepping was featured here with the recipe info.:
And the soup she sampled – you can find the recipe by clicking: Butternut Squash Soup
