Scripture Memory Team 2025 – Verse 8

Scripture Memory Team

1 Aug

As soon as I read this month’s verse, I was taken back to my former school principal, Mr. Munro, and the thought that it was one of his favorite verses. The thought kept churning in my mind – this connection of Mr. Munro and Colossians 3:17 – till I reached out to his lovely widow and she confirmed that yes, it was indeed one of his favorites.

Do you ever connect people and Bible verses together? For instance, one verse I remember when I think about my mom is Proverbs 25:11, “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.” I don’t know if it was her favorite or if it was what my speak-my-mind-school-girl heart needed to hear. Hmmm. Sometimes my adult here-in-the-middle-years heart needs to hear that verse too. How timely as youngsters are returning to school that I think of an educator from my childhood, though he’s in heaven now, and the impact of him loving, and living, Colossians 3:17.

When someone loves something, they talk about it, and Mr. Munro talked about Colossians 3:17. What an impact Truth made on my young heart. Mr. Munro‘s life lined up with this verse. His word and deeds were in line with the Word. If I gave an alliteration to my memory of him, it would be: Scripture, Smile, and Suit coat. Mr Munro had the happiest laugh and smiled and nodded often. He dressed the part as a representative of our school. His sport coats always had one of those little handkerchiefs in the pocket.

I remember when Victoria was teaching in China and the challenges, at times, of a classroom. As she loved on her students, I shared with her that she might never know the positive impact she could have upon her students. You educators know: you give of yourself and your time and means to the students beyond the budget. I appreciate all of you that educate and administrate and love and care for the children in our schools. My school memories are highlighted by a principal that shared his love for Colossians 3:17 by talking passionately about the Word, and here all these years later, I am encouraged in the Lord. Don’t we all need an encourager? Mr. Munro’s legacy encourages me today. The Word is eternal and true. It will accomplish what GOD intends it to. So here, in my middle years, I am still a student – a student of the Word. May I always be. I’m memorizing this month’s Scripture memory verse with gratitude to the Lord for Mr. Munro.

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.“ 💜🧡💛
