“A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart.” Luke 6:45a
Recently a friend told me that in the five years that he’d worked for a local doctor, the doctor had never lost his temper and he’d never had an unkind word for anyone. I think this doctor is a great example of this verse – the overflow of his life was self-control and kindness: sweet fruits of the Spirit.
In his last earthly years, my daddy lived with us and I had the opportunity to be his advocate in the medical field. During one hospital stay I experienced the exact opposite of what my friend described. I was shocked to see a nurse being the recipient of a verbal lashing that had been stored in a doctor’s heart. There is a stark contrast of good verses bad; but guaranteed, what is on the inside comes out. We can’t give out good things if we don’t have them in our hearts. When you squeeze an orange, you always get orange juice. If we are full of anger and bitterness and we are squeezed – it’s what will overflow from the heart. Every time an orange is smashed, pierced, or squeezed out will come orange juice. And it’s the same with our hearts.
I want to invite you to memorize this months verse with me and let’s store up the Truth of God’s word so that when we are squeezed by life, the Word, the Truth of God will come out of us.
