Happy July! And, Happy Scripture Memory Team Day! There is much to celebrate this month. Let’s start the celebrations with July’s Scripture Memory Team verse,
Proverbs 11:25:
“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”
Any time I think of a generous person, I think of my mom‘s dad, Grandpa Garrett. He left me a physical inheritance that initially drew us to Tennessee; but, he also left me a spiritual inheritance that is not defined by flagged pegs on the corners of land.
I’ve wondered many times if the abundant blessings I receive today are a harvest of the generosity Grandpa sowed in the soil of our family. He was so generous to his family and others, even to those who had wronged him.
He gave gifts of time, kind words, tender glances and embraces, leaning in to listen, sitting with you on the porch, of loving and serving his wife and family well.
A snapshot of his life could be the visual definition of this month’s verse because he definitely prospered and refreshed others.
I want to be a Proverbs 11:25 generous person and refresh others like my grandfather modeled for me. If you’d like to read more about my grandfather, I wrote a blog post years back titled “Celebrating a life well lived and a lasting legacy” – Here’s a link to the post. And if you read it, you will also love the adorable pictures of our now adult children. Oh the days of matching outfits, big hair bows, and cutie pie grins!
