Good morning, mamas! Happy start of the week to you! How are you? How was your Thanksgiving holiday? I hope it was your best ever! Our home was brimming with family and it was a very full, and a very happy time.
Tell me all about your Thanksgiving meal! If it were up to The Salesman, we would have gone out for Asian food! But, since Victoria Leigh is home this year, and won’t be next year, she helped me plan and prepare a traditional meal. In fact, every family member had a part in helping this year. The best part was gathering round the table with thankful hearts that we were together. Together is good.
Well, before I get sidetracked and mushy, let me focus on the review at hand today:
Cookbook: Trim Healthy Mama Cookbook
Chapter: Crackers, Chips, and Dips
Recipe: Crunch Puffs
Serving: Multiple Serve – Makes 2-3 servings
Fuel: FP, Fuel Pull
Snack foods have always been a hit with The Salesman. I tried this recipe in hopes that it would replace the desire for some of the not-so-healthy snacks. The picture in the cookbook looked so similar to cheese puff balls, I just knew it would be a winner. I am always thankful for pictures added to recipes. Knowing what the end product should look like, helps me. So, I mixed the ingredients together and filled a zippered bag with the contents:
And proceeded to pipe the batter onto the prepared sheets. I baked them for the allotted time and was even patient to let them sit in the closed oven for 25 minutes, as the directions specified, before removing them.
My puffs looked a bit different from the cookbook picture. Maybe it was my bakery working days that came out in the shape looking more like I was decorating a cupcake, than a round, smooth Cheese Puff Ball. Or Crunch Puff.
They were a little more festive looking, like they could’ve been perched atop a teeny, tiny cupcake.
Not letting the look of them detour me, I moved on to making the seasonings/flavorings for the puffs. Options were given for a sweet or savory Crunch Puff. I went with savory because I was competing with a Cheese Puff Ball. Or trying to compete with one. I made the Trim Healthy Mama Macho Nacho seasoning:
After tossing the puffs in the seasoning twice, they were ready. Now, I’ve got to admit, these look pretty good, to me! And as long as you are not comparing them to a perfectly orbed, and uniformly coated cheese puff ball, they do look good, right?
I don’t think I’d be hired as a uniform seasoning/flavoring applier.
These Trim Healthy Mama Crunch Puffs were best when fresh. After being stored, they were okay. I don’t know that I’d make them again because I know that I won’t eat all of them in one sitting, and The Salesman thought they were just okay. I would say, Cheese Puff Balls 1, Crunch Puffs, 0.
So, we will try a new recipe again next week. Not every recipe can be a winner for us. And not every recipe turns out looking like the lovely picture in the cookbook. I do love that I never have to wonder what The Salesman thinks about the recipes and dishes I try. Honesty folks, right here. Honesty is the best policy. I want to make food that is healthy for him and helps him on his journey to being trim and healthy.
Have any of you tried any of the other crackers or chips recipes from the Trim Healthy Mama cookbook? Did you like them? If so, please let me know. I’d love to hear your recommendations.
And are they any recipes you’d like to see me review? Please let me know.
Have a wonderful week!
Enjoy!
