Finding Beauty in Every Face & Place – A baby bunny sits at my feet

A Beautiful Life

7 Aug

Right before the bird family that nested on the wreath on our back door flew away, the Lord sent a bunny family. Our yard seems to have a magnet for animals somewhat like Snow White did in her fairytale.  Sunday evening before a business zoom call, I started to close the bamboo blinds and much to my surprise, had a front row view to the mama bunny nursing her babies right there among the gardenias, hydrangeas, and the like, in my little slice of heaven flower garden at the back door.  This picture shows the mama and three kits under her nursing, and one little fella to the right, coming to dinner late.

The LORD is up to something with bringing life and light and laughter to my back door.

I started filming immediately because the babies were adorable, frolicking around as they nursed.  I hit my camera accidentally against the window in my excitement and it didn’t seem to interrupt meal time, so I ventured on out to the back porch. I stepped to the very edge of the porch; but, did not step into the pine-needled garden.  I was in awe.  I’d never seen a mother standing over kits nursing them. The kits frolicked around, sometimes getting sidetracked by playing and rolling, and would then reach up to get their nourishment.  I alternated between filming and taking pictures.  One little bunny joined mealtime after the other three babies had started nursing.  And, one little bunny finished early and he made a dart away from his mama and I wondered where he was going.  He made a bee line for me and rounded the curve between two gardenia bushes like he was driving a race car and skidded pine needles and slid into place at my feet and stopped.

I was so excited and could hardly believe he’d rounded the flowers and planted himself in front of me and stretched out one white paw… He was so tiny and adorable.  I continued filming and I told him how beautiful he was. I thanked the Lord for bringing him to me.  I moved as close as I could and took many pictures after my prolonged filming while giving a running commentary to him.

We had a good time.  Well, I had a good time. I did all the talking.  The Salesman would say “I was trying to use up all my words.” I’ve never had a conversation with a baby rabbit, or any rabbit, before and wasn’t really sure what to say.  After I’d run out of *things* to share with the baby bunny that had zoomed to sit at my feet, I remembered that I did have a business call and it was me that was going to need to zoom on to my Zoom meeting.

He did not budge an inch.  I moved around a bit, getting closer and closer with my camera/tweezers (if you are The Salesman), and still he stayed completely statuesque.

I have continued to see the mama and babies outside hopping happily ever after.

There truly is beauty, and wonder, and good, and evidence of a Creator, all around us.

Look up, my friends.  And have a wonder-filled weekend.
