‘Tis the season for everything pumpkin and I am so glad because I am a fan of almost everything pumpkin! I think this is the most wonderful time of the year and I enjoy all the comforting foods that go hand-in-hand with the season. I’ve discovered a delicious THM shake this week that tastes like this wonderful season and I’m looking forward to sharing it with you; but first, this recipe called for an egg yolk in the shake and I almost didn’t try it because I’ve never added an egg yolk to a shake. And, *someone else* did not try it because of that! I decided to go ahead and put the egg in the shake because the Mamas have failed me so few times over the years, that I felt like I could trust them. Let’s just get straight to it, I have never felt so much like Rocky Balboa as I did when I added an egg to this shake. The Rocky theme song may still be playing in my mind. Have you ever added an egg to a drink or a shake? Well, it was a first for me. And as a side note: I’m still consistently doing my Mean Green Juice every day! Today is day 27! I hadn’t planned to continue this long; but, it’s been a wonderful month of juicing fruits and vegetables and I feel so good. In fact, I feel like Rocky running up the stone steps. So, this new-to-me Trim Healthy Mama Pumpkin Pie Shake, was like a dessert to me. However, the Salesman came through the kitchen while I was boiling eggs right before I made this shake and was also very curious, and skeptical, that one of the eggs had made it into the shake, and that was probably why he touched his tongue to a spoonful of the shake and then promptly returned his mug to me saying, “he’d never really liked pumpkin pie…” He’s missing out. Just sayin’… So, right off the bat, it’s one thumbs up and one down. This shake is creamy and dreamy and delicious!
Here are a few words from the Mamas and the recipe:
“Oh my… this is creamy, Autumny, delishy and healthy! Pumpkin Pie Shake is both slimming and protein packed so if you want to start your day with a sweet breakfast that tastes of fall – go right ahead. Drink up for your health!. Or have this shake as an afternoon snack – perfect while you are out and about doing errands. This is a BIG shake so if wanting this for dessert – halve the ingredients and that will be dessert portion friendly. If you have dairy allergies – no problem, there are two delicious ways to make this shake – either using dairy or going with the alternatives. Both ways result in creamy deliciousness.
Ingredients:
3 Tbs Pure Pumpkin Puree
½ cup Unsweetened Almond Milk
½ cup water
yolk of one boiled egg
splash of vanilla
1/3 tsp pumpkin pie spice and ¼ tsp cinnamon
2 pinches high mineral sea salt (like Celtic sea salt)
2 ½ – 3 tsp THM Super Sweet or 3 doonks THM Pure Stevia Extract Powder (if using other stevia blends like Truvia you may need double amounts of sweetener)
1-2 Tbs Heavy Cream or Half and Half (dairy free version use 1 Tbs MCT oil)
½ tsp Gluccie (Glucommanan) or 1/3 tsp Xanthan gum.
Mix Above ingredients well in Blender – let sit for a minute then add:
10 large ice cubes (about 2 cups ice)
Once ice is well blended add:
2-3 Tbs Pristine Whey Protein Powder– or another plan approved protein powder
(for a dairy free version add 1-2 Tbs Beef Collagen Peptides instead of the whey protein– the beef collagen peptides come in the green can of pure beef gelatin from Great Lakes)
Blend well for another minute or so then… Enjoy!
Notes – The boiled egg yolk amps up the protein a little more and gives this a creamy pumpkin pie feel. If you have a source for quality, cage free eggs, you could use a raw yolk. You can also try adding a tsp of instant coffee to the shake for a further kicker!”
Please let me know if you make this shake and what you think of drinking your pumpkin pie. And, let me know if you regularly add egg yolks to your beverages, and we can be all Rocky Balboa together!
Enjoy!
