How subtraction from the heart has added the most beautiful hands

A Beautiful Life

12 Jun

It’s nice to have additions to your relationships and family. We usually receive themed invitations to celebrate when people are added to our life.

We all ooh and ahh at wedding and baby shower luncheons as gifts are opened.

However, when subtractions come along to your marriage and family, where are the invitations to come sit around the table?

Subtractions from life tend not to be remembered in the same way as additions.

This last week I had the opportunity to do life with a group of ladies who had experienced the subtraction of a spouse. One of my dearest neighbors, and one of her friends, started a new ministry this week for Widow’s.

I was invited to a luncheon where every lady was a widow, except me.

“She is not a widow; but she is my neighbor…” was how I was pleasantly introduced at the Widow’s Luncheon as I slipped to the kitchen to get the rolls out of the oven because the kitchen timer had just *dinged*.

Making a decision to serve others in an area you’ve experienced tremendous loss can be challenging because you are experiencing sorrow and all the emotions that go with it.
These ladies have experienced a gaping loss in their marriages. However, they are not defined by who has been subtracted from their lives.  They are defined by their decision to love and serve others.
I believe their hands are the most beautiful hands I’ve seen in the last year,  They reflect of hearts that have loved and lost.  Hearts that made a head decision to add others to the empty place at the table.
I honor these ladies.
I honor the beloved ones they’ve had subtracted from their marriages.
I honor the decision to gather others to their hearts, homes, and hearths.

Your words are a blessing, April. It was such a warm and welcoming luncheon. I hold the ladies who started the ministry in high esteem.
